1. Given the non-template strand of DNA, draw the template strand with the 5' and 3' ends labeled. Draw the RNA molecule with the proper 5' and 3' ends labeled
Non-Template Strand: 3'- AAT GCT CGT AGC TTC GAT CGG ATC GA-5'
2. How many amino acids would the RNA molecule code for?
1. Given Non-template strand:
3'- AAT GCT CGT AGC TTC GAT CGG ATC GA-5’
The non-template strand will always be in a 5’ to 3’ direction.
Hence, Sequence of non template strand is
5’- AGC TAG GCT AGC TTC GAT GCT CGT AA-3’
Template Strand: Template strand is complementary to non-template strand.
Template strand runs in 3’ to 5’ direction
3’ TCG ATC CGA TCG AAG CTA CGA GCA TT -5’
RNA: RNA strand is complementary to template strand. Its sequence will be same as the non-template strand, also known as coding strand. Thymine will be replaced by uracil in the RNA strand.
5’- AGC UAG GCU AGC UUC GAU GCU CGU AA-3’
2. Amino acid sequence:
Serine-stop-Ala-Ser-Phe-Val-Ala-Arg
There is only one amino acid as a stop codon is present after it, stopping the translation. Further, methionine is not present to re initiate translation.
