5. Communication plays a significant role with interactions
between the nurse and the client especially with someone who has
limited English proficiency. What are the benefits to providing
linguistically appropriate care?
a. Clients receive more preventive services
b. Clients make less frequent visits to their healthcare providers
c. The increased cost of the services outweighs the benefits
d. Early detection and intervention of health problems are not affected
Answer Option B. Clients make less frequent visits to their healthcare providers
Option B is correct as when the nurse provides the client with
limited English proficiency correct, clear and comprehendable
instructions through providing linguistically appropriate care we
reduce the frequency of visits to healthcare providers. The reduced
frequency is a good thing for two reasons. First being that the
client does not have to visit to know and repeated told the
medication and care instructions which if understood can affect
safety and effectiveness of the treatment. The second reasons is by
providing linguistically appropriate care we reduce the chances of
wrong medication administration and resultant emergency situation
which often leads o more frequent visits to to their healthcare
providers
Option A is incorrect as recieving preventive service "more" is not the intended application of providing linguistically appropriate care for limited English proficiency client but ensuring clear and understandable instructions is
Option C is incorrect as increasing costs of services for patient safety is not in conjunction with linguistically appropriate care in limited English proficiency. The staff can be hired would not cost increase in costs due to addition for patient safety
Option D is incorrect as providing linguistically appropriate care for limited English proficiency does indeed help with early detection and intervention of health problems
