What would be an example of an experimental design involving manipulation?

What would be an example of an experimental design involving manipulation?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Example of an Experimental Design involving manipulation:

Step 1:

Let the research question be:

Does music in the background improve the performance of a student?

Step 2:

Randomly assign the n volunteer students to one of the two mutually exclusive groups:

Group 1: Exprimental Group: Students studying with music in the background

Group 2: Control Group: Students studying without music in the background

Step 3:

Evaluate the performance of each student by a test after the experimentation and tabulate their scores in the test

Step 4:

Conduct a Two Independent Samples t test to find out whether the performance of the student is significantly higher for studying with music in the background as compared to studying without music in the background.

Explanation:
In the above experimentation for answering the research question, "Does music in the background improve the performance of a student?", the researcher manipulates the Independent Variable: with or without music in the background in order to study its effect on the Dependent Variable: the performance of the student.
