Give an example of an experimental design that would make use of a 2x2 ANOVA.
For a 2x2 ANOVA we need one independent variable and one dependent variable, but both variables must have 2 levels each so that we can have a 2x2 table for the ANOVA data table. For example, we want to analyse the effect of room temperature on junk food eating, specifically number of hotdogs eaten by the participants. Here we have two different room temperature levels which below 40 degree Celsius and above 40 degree Celsius. Number of hotdogs eaten by a person has two different level, less than 4 hotspots and more than 4 hotdogs.
So, the above table has 4 levels which makes it a 2x2 ANOVA table
Table will look like this
Room | Temperature | |
Number of hotdogs | Below 40 degree Celsius | Above 40 degree Celsius |
Less than 4 hotdogs | Less than 4 hotdog below 40 C | Less than 4 hotdogs above 40 C |
More than 4 hotdogs | More than 4 hotdogs below 40 C | More than 4 hotdogs above 40 C |
So, this is an example of 2x2 ANOVA table between number of hotdogs at two different levels of room temperature
