Lifespan or life expectancy of any living being can be described as the total number of years or the total time it lives from birth to death. For humans, the average lifespan is 72 years for men and 75 years for women. Although this is the average lifespan, there are people who live for more than 100 years. It has been observed that in certain cultures, the longevity is really high. For example, the Japanese people have higher longevity compared to others. The merits of this can be attributed partly to their culture, which includes diet, exercise, lifestyle, etc. On the other hand, there are cultures or countries like Nigeria with an average life expectancy much lower than the global average, which is around 53 years. This is partly because of their unhealthy lifestyle, which is part of their culture.

Culture has an immense influence on the food habits of a population. It has been observed that certain cultures that follow a healthy diet like the vegan or vegetarian diet mostly do not have lifestyle diseases or deaths caused by those diseases. Certain cultures like Japan are much dependent on seafood including fish, oysters, algae, etc instead of red meat. Whereas countries like Nigeria prefer a meat-based diet. The exercise pattern also affects the lifespan management of a population. Some cultures like India encourages daily physical and mental exercises like yoga and meditation. General hygiene is also different for different cultures, which also has an impact on the lifespan management of the general population. Sleeping habits also vary for different cultural groups, which is another factor that could positively or negatively affect the lifespan management. Thus the effect of culture is quite significant and numerous in the lifespan management.
