Culture presents a set of values, beliefs, and mutual norms. Humans interact on a daily basis. Messages are transferred within family, peers, and societies. There are specific unwritten norms that talk about how language is used and how people will interact.

• If the people know about the cultural norms then the listening would be effective and appropriate as they will know what are the speaking and listening patterns.
• If people are from different cultures, then listening might get hindered as people possess different understanding of speaking and listening patterns.
