how does immigration effect america
The inflow of immigrants to the US in the last 30 yrs have give a shape to the US economy and society,Immigrants affect the natives in the labor market. Immigrants can also have their impact on different aspects of American economy like fiscal effects, consumption, contribution to scientific progress, culture, social norms , security etc.Immigration can also affect political outcomes. Immigration might also affect the result of elections by extending more voters, During the 19th century the share of immigrants to the total population had increased 15%,The majority were unskilled labourers and few were educated. The immigrants of the 19th and 20th century had positive impact on the people where they settled. Research has shown that during 1860-1920 when US had more immigration, there was significantly higher income, less poverty, less unemployment, more urbanization and high education, The immigrants led to economic growth in the 19th an 20th century because they complemented to the local needs.Low skilled workers worked as labourers during industrialization and high skilled workers made innovations in agriculture and manufacturing. However the natives of America are concerned as they believe that immigrants cannot mix into American society, lead to unemployment and lower the wages of existing workers. They fear that the immigrants with different languages ,culture , background cannot assimilate with American society. Americans know that often in factories, low paid immigrants replace the native Americans.Immigrants have taken away the jobs in construction , hospitals etc. These does not mean that immigrants have negative impact in the US economy. They reduce the wages of low skilled workers and at the same time encourage capital investment in the form of factories which lead to increased production,
