(Answer) There are several prominent leadership styles that a manager might employ, based on targets to be achieved, the nature of the team, the circumstances to overcome etc. A style that generally is lucrative to the situation and easy on the team is that of a “Democratic Style” leadership.

In the Democratic style leadership, the leader focuses on influencing participation of every member of the team. The leader will accommodate listening to the good and bad of the situation. Furthermore, with this style, team members tend not to feel left out. A leader of such a team will acknowledge that his/ her team is capable of good ideas, suggestions and handling tasks efficiently.

The only problem with this leadership style is that sometimes it can take time to make decisions since everyone’s needs are to be considered. However, this is a small challenge to overcome. Especially since the benefits include that all team members feel equal to each other since they contribute equally to the progress of the team.

A leader needs to be more like a person who sets an example as opposed to a person who gives the orders. Psychological implications would suggest that a team is generally comfortable with a leader who is not egotistical and is willing to work alongside the team. The humility to work with the team, along with maintaining the authority to delegate and direct people, are the qualities of a respectable leader.

In a global and diverse economy, it is essential to adopt a leadership style where no minority is left out. Everyone deserves an equal opportunity to have their voice hears and to prove themselves. This is why the democratic leadership style is favourable.
