Planned Change- Planned change refers to the process of prior preparation for changing either the entire organization or parts of it for achieving a new goal or direction. This change can occur in the organizational culture, structure, processes, targets, metrics, rewards, or any other aspect. The objective of planned change takes place in two ways; first, it aims at improving the ability of the organization to get accustomed to the changes in the environment, and second, it seeks to change the behaviour of the employees.

Emergent Change- Emergent change refers to the ever-changing process of aligning an organization to its changing environment with a change in its process, structure, strategy, goals and culture. This concept assumes change to be an open-ended, continuous and unpredictable process of continuation and adaptation. It brings about meaningful changes and powerful shifts to an entire organization by enhancing the understanding, cooperation and strengthening of the entire team involved in the process.

Incremental Change- Incremental change refers to the change in the status quo of an organization through simple and small steps. Thus, this type of change is not concerned with changing the core of the organization; rather it focuses on minor adjustments to various pre-existing systems, services, processes, products and models. Incremental change occurs over a longer time by fixing the small problems that arise during the daily course of the business.

Transformational Change- This is an organizational-wide change that occurs over a period. Transformational change takes place in response to or in anticipation of major changes that are occurring in the external environment or technology if an organization. These changes focus on changing the business strategy of the firm, because of which the internal structure, processes and corporate culture need to be changed. Thus, transformational change in businesses requires proper planning, effective implementation and follow-up for being a success.

Covid-19 pandemic has challenged companies by creating an environment of uncertainty and unforeseen circumstances. The companies are facing enormous difficulties in carrying out their business operations uninterruptedly because of this pandemic. Thus, a planned change in the processes, internal structure and organizational culture of the firms would be beneficial in handling the obstacles and accordingly, carry out the business operations. The companies are accustomed to the changes in the business environment that are taking place with the outbreak of the global pandemic. Thus, they can plan for the change in their processes according to the consequences they are facing and might face shortly. Planned change would help them in adapting to the changing requirements and make progress in their original goals. Furthermore, they would be able to convince and make the employees understand the need for such change and consequently, change their behaviour for accomplishing the change.
