Social capital is a type of capital that can be obtained by developing social relations among people. Social communication among the people helps to develop trust and the idea of mutual exchange of substances or facts within two persons or a group. The main objective of social capital is to establish networking among people, forming associations, taking voluntary steps for helping others, building trust and associations, establishing a strong relationship, reciprocating in a relationship, and a sense of belongingness. Social capital in education plays a major role by involving the role of parents, education institution and social background from which all the students of the education institutions belong to. A student's academic success depends on social capital to a great extent. The type of relationship, the students maintain in the society with his family, friends, teachers affects the academic performance to a great extent. In this, the family plays a great role by first introducing the concept of socialization from early childhood. The school also enhances social activities by introducing extracurricular activities, group tasks, organizing cultural fests, imparting a message to help one another e.t.c.Some of the benefits and challenges of social capital in education are as follows-
Benefits- 1.Social capital develops a sense of bonding, which helps a student to bond with another student or with the other members of the educational institution.
2. It also helps to form a link between the students belonging to different economic categories.
3. It helps to develop a great sense of self-confidence ie. a student can communicate with anybody without any hesitation.
4. Social capital helps to develop mutual trust between the students, students with their teachers and other outsiders
5. Students learn to reciprocate and help each other at the time of need.
6. Students learn to take voluntary actions to help others or to do some work.
Challenges-
1. There can be internal conflict prevailing among the group, which may harm the minds of the students.
2. Some times social groups can induce bad companies. Students get easily attracted to this company.
3. Sometimes students become of a particular community of students that emphasizes following only their agenda. They refrain the students from becoming a part of other communities.
Cultural Capital - This type of capital comprises of the assets that an individual has to possess to behave in society ie. person's knowledge, intelligence, way of speaking, dressing e.t,c,) Cultural capital mainly passes down from the family and generally passed through generation. It plays a great role in acquiring education. The process by which one acquires knowledge and people's perceptions are formed depends on cultural capital to a great extent. It helps the students to recognize the people of great knowledge or intellect and to acquire knowledge from them. The students can achieve higher knowledge and qualifications by a good cultural capital.the benefits and challenges in education are as follows-
Benefits-
1. It helps the students to understand better in the prospect of education.
2. It increases the quality of work of the students.
3. Enhance the students to appreciate art and culture
Challenges-
1. Sometimes students are not able to match their family culture and school cultural environment.
2. Many poor people feel inferior and do not come in front inspite of knowing.
3. Students who are not having cultural capital felt left out
