Disorder At-a-Glance STEP 1: Pick one of the disorders you read about in this module and learn more about it in order to make a “At-a-Glance” page with details about the disorder. Visit the National Institute of Mental Health and search for the disorder, read through the information, then scroll to the section on “Research and Statistics” or “Journal Articles or Reports” to find helpful links to outside information. Look elsewhere as well for details about the prevalence, signs, symptoms, details, and research related to the disorder. Keep track of all of your sources as you investigate. STEP 2: In a format of your choosing (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.), create a 1 page visual that includes the following information about the disorder: Description Prevalence Causes and Risk Factors Recent Research (referencing at least 2 research articles) Either as a footnote on the same page, or on a separate page, include the citations in APA format

Autism:

This is me of the developmental disorders that would be characterised via the troubles that a person would be facing through social interaction as well as communication. There would be restricted as ELL as repetitive behaviors that a person would b facing. Parents could notice the signs in the initial two-three years of the life of a child. These signs would be developing gradually, though, some of the children might be reaching their development at a fairly normal pace.

Prevalence:

The new prevalence estimates are of 15%, that is seen to be increasing yearly. One out of 59 people were diagnosed of autism.

Causes:

Causes include biological causes, environmental causes or genetic causes. Genes have known to be one of the major reasons that cause autism. In some cases, abnormal genes cause autism. In a very few cases, autism may be caused by rubella, fragile x syndrome, encephalitis and even PKU

Risk factors:

Risk factors include:

  • Use of more natal maternal medications.
  • Advanced age for the parent at birth
  • Bleeding
  • Being born first
  • Gestational diabetes.
  • Family history
  • Babies who are extremely pre term.
