Consider the major sociological perspectives you have read about in this unit (Structural Functionalism, Critical Theory, Feminism, Symbolic Interactionism). Bringing this theory to practice -- how would you understand the COVID-19 pandemic using two of the four major sociological perspectives? Please give me answer as soon as possible give me a new answer for this quetion ASAP
Conflict theory suggests that the society is in a perpetual conflict for the limited resources available where social order is maintained not through consensus but through domination. This would mean that the current COVID-19 pandemic has brought out the difference in terms of the number of people affected from various groups and the number of people getting proper treatment. While those who have accumulated white advantage are able to use them to gain access to food supplies and healthcare, other minorities who have the accumulated disadvantage struggle hard to fight their way through this pandemic. Coincidentally, the death rate is also more with the people of color.
Structural functionalism on the other hand, views society as a complex system whose parts work together to promote solidarity and stability. This would mean that at a time like this, it’s important for everyone, institutions and organisations including the government to work together in finding the right solution to make the society function normally again. This would mean that this view considers the differences as normal and it seeks to find solidarity and stability amidst the differences people have in terms of wealth, race, culture and resources.
