Consider the major sociological perspectives you have read about in this unit (Structural Functionalism, Critical Theory, Feminism, Symbolic Interactionism). Bringing this theory to practice -- how would you understand the COVID-19 pandemic using two of the four major sociological perspectives
There is great effect of COVID-19 in the perspective of the structural functionalism. It appears that in society all things are related to each other. Besides, there are people of different professions. In the perspective of the structural functionalism all the people are interrelated. There are students for schools and teachers. Teachers and students are interrelated. But for the pandemic COVID-19 there is break up between teachers and the students. Similarly, people are also separated from their relatives. Employees fail to attend the office. The public servants fail to serve the people. Shops are closed, parks are empty, social structure is absolutely broken for the pandemic COVID-19.
In respect of feminist theory the pandemic COVID-19 can be explained very effectively. The purpose of the feminism is to establish the equality between men and women. It demands to establish the equality and the abolition of the gender discrimination. In the present situation, we find that women are more enthusiastic than men. Nurses are in the front to prevent the disease. They are constantly fighting against the disease. Their role is many times more than the men. It establishes the view that in the crisis both men and women are equally needed to save a nation.
