Structural functionalism refers society as a complex system whose parts work together to promote solidarity and stability. This would mean that all the systems and institutions along with the people who work there are necessary for the smooth functioning of the society. It doesn’t differentiate the society and do not treat inequalities as an issue thus all that happens in the society during this pandemic are important and everyone’s work is important to fight this pandemic.

Conflict perspective suggests that the society is in a perpetual conflict for the limited resources available where the social order is maintained not through consensus but through domination. This would mean that the society is stratified and divided into different groups based on various factors such as, race, religion, culture, socio-economic status etc. Thus, those who have more access to resources and power would also have more access to opportunities and facilities. This would mean that the difference and inequalities have impacted people from the lower social order more than those who are wealthy and powerful.
