What is rape culture? How does it affect victims of sexual assault? What should be done to eradicate this problem in our culture?
Rape culture is normalisation of sexual violence against women on the basis of sociological facets allied with prevalence.
Victims of sexual assault are deeply affectd by rape culture because it indirectly justifies the drastic crimes like rape. Women are threatened, humiliated, abused, blamed and sexually objectified.
This destroys the dignity of a woman. It shatters self- confidence, decreases willingness and enthusiasm to live, creates inferiority complex, leads to vaccant mind and loneliness.
Rape culture hurts a woman psychologically. It results into stress, anxiety, fear and many allied psychological disorders.
Rape culture can be eradicated through the following remedies/ solutions-
1- The victims must be supported and not blamed.
2- There has to be fearless initiation against rape culture. It has to be reported to police.
3- Cases should be filed in the court.
4- More light can be thrown on such cases/ incidences through approaching media.
5- Social media can be creatively used to create awareness regarding this issue.
6- A constructive discussion and probable way of policy changes can be triggered through conferences, workshops.
7- School and college girls should be taught about standing against rape culture.
