How can you train and prepare a manager for a role in a different country?
Answer: Overseas assignments are complex as compared to the domestic assignment because of a number of differences between the home and the host country. These differences include culture, political situation and so on. Therefore for training a manager to handle an overseas assignment the following steps should be taken
1. Educate the manager about the social and cultural differences between the host and the home country
2. Educate the manager about the political and legal environmental differences between the host and the home country
3. Ask the expatriates from the company who have worked on the overseas assignment to coach and mentor such students
4. Provide training on the skills and competencies like local language, local customs, emotional intelligence, cultural empathy and cultural resilience
Including all these factors into training can help in preparing the managers to better handle the overseas assignment
