Assignment:
Using your own personal experiences, explain the shopper marketing
strategy in each of these scenarios:
1. Describe two occasions when a retailer successfully sold you a product you were buying for yourself through an effective shopper marketing tactic.
a. First example is when you bought a product you were not
planning on buying when you entered a store (or visited a web
site)
b. Second example is when the shopper marketing tactic helped you
make the final decision to buy a product that you intended to buy
when entering a retailer. (ex. Lots of people bought coca-cola
because they use a shopper marketing tactic of putting names on the
labels. They knew they wanted a soda, but they decided to buy a
coke because of the label)
2. Describe one occasion when a retailer sold you a product you were buying for someone else through an effective shopper marketing tactic.
1.a Such incidents happen many times while on e commerce sites. I keep an eye on good quality products on e commerce platforms like Amazon, which I wish to buy, if they are available for less ( at higher discount). On one fine day, I suddenly see that the item's price has been dropped to a very attractive price point. Such occasions often lead to unintended and unplanned purchases, and have happened with me more than once.
1b This happened with me when I was sent to buy cookies for my nephew at a local store. I saw a combo where a cold drink was available with purchase of 3 cookies and a pack of chips. Although this was not my favourite brand of cookies ( which was obviously available, but without any freebies), I went ahead to buy the combo, which cost me teice the money.
2. This incident happened when I bought a watch as a birthday gift for my friend. I was handed over a " special scratch coupon for select customers" by the salesperson, which will reveal my price on scratching. It was 30% discount on my next purchase of watch from the same company. I ended up buying a watch for myself to redeem the coupon even when I did not particularly need it.
