Before you write your paper, conduct this simple experiment on classical conditioning.
You will need a bell (a set of keys works too, a hand-held mirror, and a room that becomes completely dark when the light is turned off. Hold the bell while standing in the room near the light switch. Once in position, ring the bell and then immediately turn off the light. Wait in total darkness for 15 seconds, then turn the light on. Wait another 15 seconds with the light on, then ring the bell and immediately turn the light off again, waiting another 15 seconds in the dark.
Repeat this procedure 20 to 30 times, making sure that in each case the bell is rung immediately before the light is turned off. Now, with the light on, watch your eyes closely in the mirror and then ring the bell. Your pupils should dilate slightly even without a change in light!
Cover the following items in your paper:
Share your experience with this experiment.
Identify the neutral stimulus (NS), the unconditioned stimulus (US), the unconditioned response (UR), the conditioned stimulus (CS), and the conditioned response (CR). (You must identify these five elements to receive full credit.)
Identify two to three real-life examples of classical conditioning that you are aware of in your life.
This paper should be one page.
The experience is that for the first time the light is put off and the bell was ringing there was no response the first time too when the light is put on and the bell rang it was neutral stimulus, When putting on and putting off the light became more in number and ringing of bell with each event the pupil was changing automatically dilating and contracting, and lastly when the bell rang with the lights on .the pupil dilate automatically. All these acts are due to stimulus responses.
1. Neutral stimulus does not produce an automatic response like when the lights were put off and the bell was ringing the brain had not developed a response to the act. which resulted in no reaction or stimulus.
2. Unconditional stimulus(US) this type of stimulus triggers unconditional natural giving rise to an automatic response like with putting on and off of the light continuously it triggers a natural response of dilating and contracting of the pupil.
3. Unconditional response(UR) Dilating and contracting of the pupil is an unconditional response. It happens without any training or learning.
4. Conditional stimulus(CS) The ringing of the bell before putting the lights on and off prepare our eyes to adjust to the situation.
5. Conditional response (CR) The response of the eye when only the conditional stimulus that is bell is ringing.
when the food is prepared and the smell of the favorite food giving the feeling of hunger . The smell of food is an unconditional stimulus and hunger is an unconditional response.
A sound of a song is a neutral stimulus. if the same song is combined together with some good feelings it is a conditional stimulus to be pleased in hearing the song.
