How has primary caregiving time changed for women and men since the 1960's? Looking at the most recent data from the ATUS, what are three main differences across gender and marital status for primary child care time?
Ans) Since 1960 's family of breadwinning father and care giving mother model has changed from 65% of all the children under 15 were raised in this manner and now it is 22 percent are there. It is because of growing economy, raising education level and growing job oppurtunities increase in independence of women and reduction in the discrimination based on gender. The three main differences are 1) Women entered in large no. in the workforce hence there is shift in the primary child care on the other hand based on marital status significant amount of primary child care is done by women who are employed also.Secondly single parents may feel more work family conflict then married parents as there is responsibility of sharing the burden of work. But on the other hand there is flexibility in timming for primary child care time on the basis of gender as both man and women are free to take charge.Thirdly Mother's in the dual earner's marriages tend to reduce the job demand for a better family demand whereas father in the dual earner marriages tend to concentrate on work demand rather than family demand .Whereas on the basis of gender women faces more home to job conflict than man.
