Briefly summarize the legal history of abortion in the United States since the 1960's. What were the major court cases regarding abortion, and what did they determine?
Abortions can be spontaneous or induced. In the legal context ,discussions about abortions uaually involve induced or intentional. In the 1960's the anti-nausea drug named thalidomide and an outbreak of measles and rubella ,caused a rash of birth defects in babies born during that decade. The increase in birth defects brought further attention to the issue since women wishing to avoid the birth with a fear that even their children will be born with defects which increases the rate of abortions but could not seek legal abortions.
Womens right organisations have filed law suits and lobbied for abortion reform laws but all the efforts failed.Womens associations continued to fight but no use .Since some states have responded to access the abortion services for women.Anti abortion groups have fought back arguing that women right to repsoductive freedom is no greater than the right of an unborn child to be born.
