There are a lot of research areas on data science. I am mentioning some of those areas:

(i) Artificial intelligence,

(ii) Machine Learning,

(iii) Language processing,

(iv) Speech or audio recognition, etc.

You may visit IEEE or Springer to check the currently available publications and read them. If you find some areas of improvement on any of them then you can propose that area as your thesis topic. There are lots of existing papers in that domain and as it is an emerging field or area there is always scope of improvements.

Based on the internet search I found a lot of research topics on that area and I am mentioning a few of them:

(i) Data-placement strategies to increase efficiency on statistical characteristics of workloads and new-memory technologies.

(ii) Minimum supervision learning process.

(iii) Generative Models & Discrete Models for under Noise Machine Learning.

You may follow the below mentioned outline:

Abstract (Introduction to the topic) --> Literature survey (previous work done in the related area) --> Proposed approach(what do you think may be improved and how) -->Implementation (synopsis of your proposed approach) --> Result --> Conclusion (how the approach worked) --> Future scope (What can be done further to improve) --> References (source of references and citations).
