What do you think makes a reason for believing something a good reason or a bad reason? In other words, if I have a reason for believing something is true, when would that reason be a good one and when would it be a bad one?
There are many reasons for believing something true or false.
But not all the reasons are coreect or good to believe any
truth.
I think that the reasons based on evidence and observation are good
reasons to believe. For example, believing that earth is round .
Scientists have travelled into space and saw it with thier eyes,
captured pictures. Moreover , one can find evidence of this by the
fact that on travelling on earth one will reach the same point
after sometimes . Thus it makes a good reson to believe something
as true.
However , there are many reasons which one comes around everyday
are actually bad reasons to believe .
One of such is tradition. I can marry only a girl from a particular
region because this has been tradition in my family for long. This
is not good reason to believe as there is no evidence or any kind
of observation to believe it to be true.
One more such bad reason is believing because of authority. If
someone in authority says something , if that is considered true
just because person in authority is saying without backed by any
evidence then it is also a bad reason to believe.
