A 244 g mass is hung on a spring. As a result the spring stretches 20.5 cm. If the object is then pulled an additional 3.0 cm downward and released, what is the period of the resulting oscillation?
Please show work :)
F=kx found k, then use 2pi(sqrtm/k)? convert centimeters to meters and grams to kg? I resulted T= 0.972 confirm please.
Mass m = 244 g = 0.244 kg
Streached length L = 20.5 cm = 0.205 m
In spring ,at equilibrium , weight of the mass = restoring force
mg = kL
From this spring constant k = mg / L
= (0.244 x9.8) / 0.205
= 11.664 N/m
Period of oscillations T = 2
[m/k]
= 2(22/7)
[0.244
/11.664]
=2(22/7)(0.144)
= 0.9087 s
