Have you ever witnessed an emergency situation? Did you intervene or were you a bystander? What factors influenced your decision to either get involved or stand aside? If you have never witnessed an emergency situation, how do you think you would react?
Yes I had witnessed an emergency when my uncle was hospitalised and needed some very rare drug to keep him alive.
It was back in 2016, I was living in a different city pursuing my bachelor's degree. I got a call from my mother at around 5 in the evening that my uncle is not well and has been admitted into the hospital. The condition is critical and is being shifted to my place for a better treatment. By the time he arrived, it was almost 11.30PM. I rushed to the hospital then. I was a bit tensed about him as he is my favourite uncle and we are good as friends too. There were some other family members accompanying him. I know they are also under lot of pressure and so I decided to stay calm and in a relaxed state what ever is the situation. I took some food for the people and told them to have it, everyone was worried and were not interested in eating. I sent them and stayed outside. The doc came and said there were some tests to be urgently done and gave me a bottle of blood sample, I immediately called up to a cousin, told him to come and stay there and rushed to get the tests done, waited for the reports and came back with the reports. After seeing the reports, doc said they need a medicine which can keep him alive. It was around 12.30AM and no pharmacy were open(the pharmacy of the hospital dint have that medicine as it was costly and very rarely used). Now everyone is tensed as that have to be given in other 2 hours max. Now again it was a pressure time. I with my cousin took the car and went in search of pharmacies which are open. We had travelled far and finally found one. Luckily, he had that medicine and was about to close that shop in few mins. He advised us to take extra two bottles but as we dint have enough money and doctors had asked only for 2, we took two and set to hospital. Now again a thought striked my mind. What if doctor asks for more at 4 or 5 in the morning. So I requested the shop owner to carry the medicines with him and took his phone number and address. Thanks to that guy, he took the medicines with him and went home. After reaching the hospital, I know everyone is totally worried and tensed, so I kept a smile on my face and tried to cheer up everyone. It was my duty to give constant updates to people in my home. So had to be cool and not say something dangerous to them as they might worry more. The medicine worked fine and he opened his eyes. Now at around 3.30 doctor said the medicine was working and they need 2 more of them in 30 mins. Luckily, we had the number of the pharmacist. Again me and my cousin drove to his place which was around 18km from hospital and came back with medicine in less than 30 mins. I tried to stay cool as much as I could but at sometime I broke down when I was with my cousin. Finally, my uncle came out heathy and now he is doing absolutely fine :)
The best thing that can be done to stay cool is to act as if you are cool and try to be confident. You automatically become cool and confident in min. This is my personal experience and worked well for me many times.
