Who within an organization should initiate the first kick-off of an idea for expansion or improving of assets? And why? Discuss.
An idea for expansion can come from anyone in the organization. But it is more likely to come from people holding leadership positions like the CEO.
This is because the CEOs have the most knowledge among the people working within an organization. Also they have the position to take such big decisions.
If an asset needs to be improved or there is a need for a new asset then you require funds for that too. The funds in adequate amount can only be released when a CEO orders for that rather than some normal manager.
He can certainly create a team to regulate such need or can use the already existing teams to review the assets.
However, the CEO should not decide it alone. He can certainly initiate the topic but must get positive response from other managers and executives.
Once a collective decision is taken you can step ahead.
A decision like this is taken be keeping in mind the return it can give. Whether the asset is needed immediately, will it be that profitable for the organization.
Also whether the asset really needs to be added or just needs to be improved. All these questions must be answered before taking the final decision.
