Does Piaget's stage model make more sense than the information processing model? Is cognitive development linear, or does it vary by ability?
The model of Piaget makes more sense and it is also said that cognitive process runs smoothly when there is proper sense. According to Piaget, it is called object permanence. The child at first makes sense of the objects around him and feels the significance of the object and their existence. Piaget makes division of four stages in life. He says that in the sensory motor stage the knowledge of the world is received by the child through sensation.
Cognitive development is not linear and it differs according to the experiences received through sense organs. It is very evident when we consider the development in respect of language development. It appears that the language development depends on the nature of stimuli. If there is deficiency of stimuli then the language development is hampered. Similarly, in case of analysis and creativity we also find the differences among the children.
