In the Life Positions and attachment styles study, Explain what types of validity was used to obtain results?
Life Positions:
A basic set of beliefs - about self or others that affect the perspective or cognitive abilities of an individual. It makes them defend the way they behave. The life positions are relative and may be good, depressive, paranoid or futile.
Attachment Styles:
An attachment pattern that is developed early on in life, influences the choices that an individual makes. They are predominantly secure or insecure attachment types. Both of these have their own subcategories of attachment styles.
Validity:
Validity usually is a term that ensures that a test can be accepted if it measures what it claims to measure. It is of two types in general - Internal & External. Internal usually refers to the results of a test that are obtained by a direct link between the test and the subject whereas external includes other factors such as the environment of the test, how samples are selected etc.,
Type of validity used - with respect to (w.r.t) Life positions and attachment studies
The test subjects were a mix of men and women around the same age group. Life positions are measured by Life Position Scale (LPS). It consisted of four positions (I +, I-, U +, U-). The factors used were Canonical correlation coefficient (R) and Squared canonical correlation coefficient (R2). Each of the participants was scored in all four life positions and in general, men seem to be more OK when compared to women. This test had the same set of questions with each participant having his/her own level of OK. Similarly, for attachment theory, a standard score was set prior to test the subjects. Attachment studies were validated on a group of adults and infants alike. Attachment was measured using Questioner Relationship (RQ) and Questioner Relationship scale (RSQ). There were 'n' prototype engagements and each individual had to choose a correspondence level. This was the approach for both RQ & RSQ. A combined total was evaluated against the standard score set. The studies were a result of Internal validity and proved that Life position and attachment studies are almost the same except for few minor differences that required further research with more External validity.
