-Attachment styles founded by Bowlby. So, What are the attachment styles first described by Bowlby, and later elaborated upon by Hazan and Shaver?
And How each attachment style looks like, and What are the similarities seen in infant-caregiver and adult attachment styles? please explain all things.
Bowlby (1969) explained four phases of attachment that take place in the first few years of life: The attachment styles are as followes:
a) Pre-attachment lasts for 0 to 3 months. Infants in this phase are intersted in anyone they see. They eventually discriminates between others and their caregivers.
b) Attachment in the making phase lasts for 3 to 6 months. In this phase infants clearly discriminates betwween their caregiver and others. They vocalizes and give smiles to their mothers.
c) Clear-cut attachment lasts for 6 to 12 months. In this phase of attachment, infants show distress when they are separated from their caregivers. Infants also show stranger anxiety when they meet any unfamiliar person. They get deeply attached to their caregiver.
d) Goal-corrected attachment lasts for 12 to 18 months. The infant starts manipulating caregiver's behaviour in order to get what s/he wants.
Hazan and shaver stated that adult life partners develope romantic love and emotional bond which share the same feature of attachment which is shown in infant-caregiver relationship.
The following similarities can be seen in infant-caregiver and adult attachment styles:
A feeling of safely and security in the presence of caregiver/beloved.
A close and inimate physical and emotional bonding.
Bot show distress when their loved ones are absent.
Bot engage in cuddling and fondling.
Both share their curiosity with their loved ones.
