Before directly coming to the inference, let's have a thought on what exactly job satisfaction and attitude implies to any individual which often varies upon the situations, opinions or the schedule.
Job satisfaction may be the commending or the unpropitious
feeling, either objective or subjective with which an individual
view or does his work on whole. It highly depends upon the
requirements, demands, expectations and desires. Sounding a bit
unadorned, it simply describes the level of happiness, dedication
and emotions towards your work.
Elbert Einstein quoted " Weakness of attitude becomes the weakness
of character " which means if you have a positive attitude towards
your work, make definitely make you an optimistic person and vice
versa. Work attitude could be seen from your respect to colleagues
( both for a higher or lower scale ), commitment towards the
passion, whether or not interested in initiating ideas for the
growth and enhancement of the company, honesty in your work, being
an altruistic for self and for others.
Now the question arises whether job satisfaction and work attitude
goes hand in hand?
Before concluding lets work on questionnaire which might provide a
light on the same.
I have developed a questionnaire for the teachers and rolled on to a no. Of 20 so as to get a proper conclusion. Participants involved both male and female of different ages and also from different background and subjects. Same was prepared on the scale of 1-5. Let's have a look:
1)- What grade of class do you teach and how many periods you have in a week?
2)- If weather is not good and the school in still opened, Would you likely be absent or present?
3)- How many hours of teaching you spend for whole of the day? Describe in detail
4)- Do you spend your time in any other assignment or seminar for school or outside the school ( if yes, then how many times in a month ) ?
5)- How will you rate the actual influence of teachers over the school policies ?
6)- What is your way of planning and teaching to class: subjective, objective , experience learning or practical ?
7)- If you go back your college days, will you ever pursue the profession of teacher again?
8)- How do you rate the payscale plan of your school and whether you have discussed with your colleagues? What is the average reaction
9)- What is your retirement plan after teaching?
10)- Rate your relation with supervisor and his assistance towards teaching and ideas?
11)- Do you agree or disagree with the statement " I am well paid in proportion to my ability "?
Rate the following statements with Agree, Stronly agree, Undecided, Disagree, Strongly disagree
12)- Good Relationship between a student and teacher is essential for teaching
13)- Teaching at primary school is less prestigious than teaching at higher school
14)- Teaching as a profession is not respected in the society
15)- There are more chances of promotion and hike for more experienced teachers
16)- Salary percentage doesn't really matter in progressive teaching
17)- Students should be given complete freedom in class and be allowed to ask questions
18)- A teacher can serve humanity by teaching in or outside the class
19)- Use of blackboard is an essential way of teaching in a school
20)- A teacher will always be on duty even after his/her retirement
Respondents results are as follows:
•The frequency of male versus female is 8/12
•For educational qualification ( bachelors- 31.8%, masters- 55%, Phd- 13.2% )
•For teaching experience ( 1-3 years: 84.2%, 4-6 years: 5.7%, 7-9 years: 5.2 %, Above 10 years: 4.9% )
After conducting the normality test, t and p values of the independent variables Job satisfaction and work attitude is calculated
t values come out to be less than 2.56 and p value comes out to be more than 0.001 which shows that the variables do not share an empirically positive relationship between themselves and hence the hypothesis is accepted ( using structural equation modelling technique). Calculating the fit indices along with Cr and Ave values. Job satisfaction of a teacher does not clearly define the work attitude towards it and is completely independent.
To conclude, if a teacher is completely satisfied from his work dosnt mean that work attitude has to be positive and vice versa.
When i was conducting this survey, a teacher gave me an example which i can relate to: A teacher was at a low payscale and was minimal satisfied with the job going through daily expenses and expectations of the reality where growing children is a bit expensive task since her child was 4 years of age and at a progressive stage. But all these things never effected her attitude towards the work. She was best known for her methods of teaching maybe in garden or inside the class giving complete freedom to innovate ideas and present and believed that a teacher like a soldier should never forget his duty in or outside the class be it in job or after the retirement and that inspired me alot. She has the best results of her students and they liked her alot.
