The Career path vertically for a Project Manager (PM) is well defined. A project manager can grow vertically can follow the path = Project Manager -> Senior Project Manager -> Program Manager -> Senior Program Manager ->Director -> Vice President

Senior Project Manager - Handling a team of 50+ people and great value projects. May be involved in leading multiple projects
Program Manager - Handling all projects for a particular client. Overseeing all the projects and their delivery of client
Senior Program Manager - Overseeing projects delivery for multiple clients. Handling the portfolio of projects across clients
Director*, Delivery - Overseeing all projects across all big clients
VP*, Delivery - Overseeing complete delivery of all projects for all clients pertaining to that industry (e.g. all Healthcare clients)

*Note - For Director and VP level there are again three levels - Associate Director, Director and then Senior Director. Similar levels for VP position. The difference in three levels pertains to total value of a client's projects handled and progression between these levels happens as your responsibility increases.
