Choose one domain of development that is of interest to you – physical, cognitive, or social-emotional. Do you believe that development in that domain is mostly continuous or does it occur in stages? Explain why, giving at least one example (from that domain you have chosen) of a change over time that supports your position. Give at least one example of a change from the same or another domain that illustrates the opposite point of view. Is there a way to reconcile the differences?
the domain of development chosen is cognitive
A continuous process is referred to as the process in which there would be gradual improvement in the endurance within the system of an individual. Whereas, discontinuous changes are the ones in which there would be changes occurring in different stages.
Some of the theories of cognitive development have explained development to be occurring in discontinuous stages, whereas, some explain it to be in continous stages.
Some of the aspects of cognitive development take place through subsequent stages in a continual manner, hwedem aine occur in a discontinous manner. Piaget suggests that development would be taking place through stages which are distinct and discontinuous which would be taking place in fixed orders. These stages were, sensorimotor stage, pre operational stages concrete operational stage a well as the reasoning stage,
Som may think of this process as being discontinuous, but it may be dependent on the skill that is developing. For example, the process from object permeable to identification of the different range of items, in a continous form and not abruptly.
