Hi all, I'm looking for somebody 40+ years old to answer the following questions for my psych class:
1. Please describe racial relations when you were growing up. What do you particularly remember about different races in your childhood or early adulthood?
2. How have race relations changed in your lifetime? How would you describe issues of race today compared to when you were younger?
3. What do you think race relations will be like in the future?
Please note what ethnicity you are and how old you are. The more responses the better. Thank you!
1. The racial relation in existed throughout the world. It is a very uncomfortable issue to be discussed, From centuries this racism on the ground of color, language, status, and the minority is present. In the US the people discriminated on the basis of their, the Native Americans were black Afro American or Indian American. They were deprived of their rights, although the constitution had given equal rights to all. Till the year 1965 no black American was given voting rights, they could not go to a restaurant, or sit on the park benches reserved for white people. The buses were also reserved for them, there were difficulties in transportation. The opportunities were very rare. The income opportunities were very rare. In my childhood I remember We had different schools or were made to sit separately, we were forced to study only through English medium of instruction, thus destroying our native languages. We were not treated equally that use to bring complex and psychic problems in the children. As the income was low medical facility were also very bad.
2. For bringing the change in racism it was a long struggle, there were many black leaders together with white revolutionaries that made it possible that Afro American got the right to vote, as the representation in the Senate was given the problem was started getting resolved. Now if we see there are many middle-classes black people are there. The equal opportunity for education has a positive impact on the progress and their contribution is also accepted, the interracial relationship was not, accepted. Now interracial marriages are legal and accepted.
3. There are various views about race relations at present it is divided, people have their own opinion s the surveys shows, 19% of American are of the opinion that race relations have improved, 38% say it is the same, and 41% says it has become bad. The view of race relations differs between white and black Americans. It is not giving a perfect picture overall view about race relation is positive, Looking at the wealth level black too have improved African Americans own approximately one-tenth of the wealth of white Americans.
America is a nation of migrants from the different part of the world. They have brought with them their culture language, ethnic values, and different religions, thus giving rise to increasen the population of those who are neither white nor black. On the political front also there are many black politicians in the government, there are no clear ethnic differences on many political and policy issues. but there is all possibility that difference if race relation will reduce if policies are made taking into consideration the welfare of the people on the whole. I am above 40 years of age.
