Think about a popular Health Promotion Campaign in your country (or elsewhere) (e.g. Smoking cessation, drinking and driving, wearing seat-belts). Using the 5 functions of the RE-AIM evaluation model describe the campaign and try to come to a conclusion on its value and impact. This is more of a thinking exercise, so don’t worry about number of people reached, or cost aspects- merely consider the potential for impact across the 5 functions based on your own knowledge of the campaign or that which can be easily found on a website or such.
The health promotion campaign which was launched in my country that gained high attention was the smoke cessation campaign. The Ministry of Health and Family welfare launched a mass media campaign on bidi smoking and its association with cardiovascular diseases under The Natioanl Tobacco Control programme. The main message of the campaign is - ' Quitting smoking is hard, but the consequence of not quitting is even harder."
The campaign is planned as a mass campaign so as to reach to the entire population of country who would take initiatives to quit smoking. This campaign uses media to spread its message so as to result in a positive health outcome. It also describes that quitting smoking will help to regain their financial status and improve their quality of life. The nationwide campaign will be aired in all major TV and FM radio channels during August. The advertisement has been dubbed in 14 regional languages for a pan- India coverage. After launching this camapaign, these advertisements have been included in various other social medias, as a opening ads for movies in theatres, public places hoardings.
Smoke free areas are established and the scenario of people smoking publicly have also reduced to greater extend. This proves that the camapaign have established a long term influence on people. This has and will promote health and prevent the occurence of illness. It has laid a positive impact on health outcome.
