How does an ICT organisation HR Manager Report and presentation to the Board on the links between investment in HRM and organisational performance look like?
The HR Manager typically spends on the following to perform his/her HR Functions:
1. Recruitment & Employer Branding
2. Training and Development
3. Compensation and Performance Appraisals (Budgets)
4. Diversity and Inclusion
5. Organisation Development
6. Talent Management
First you need to show the overall Budget of the HR Function in your organisation and total spends made during the year iwth broad divisions according to the above mentioned 6 areas. Post this you need to deep dive into each area and justify these costs area wise.
We will cover these point-wise:
1. Recruitment and Employer Branding:
Here you need to show the relationship between having a position/role vacant versus the spends you made in recruitment
For e.g.: You hired a consultant to find the right fit for the job, the amount paid to the consultant versus the incremental value in business needs to be shown to justify the cost incurred.
2. Training and Development:
For the cost incurred in each training program, divide the cost by the number of participants to get the per participant cost for the training. Compare this with the increase in productivity for the participant in his/her day-to-day job role to determine return on investment
3. Compensation and Performance Appraisals (Budgets)
Typically these budgets are finalised considering the revenues earned during the year by the organisation hence these are not looked at so frequently. But, if the overall employee cost is going out of hand, you may be asked by the Board to justify and reduce manpower if needed
4. Diversity and inclusion
To justify the costs under this header, you can find various research papers that prove increase in revenues to increase in diversity parameters in the organisation. these can be added to your Board Presentation.
5. Organisation Development Activities:
This field mostly works on projects. You can justify the cost incurred with the project impacts. For e.g. if you had a project on collaboration between your front-end and back-end functions, you can justify the cost by showing improvements in Turn around times (TATs)
6. Talent Management:
To justify your costs here you will need to show certain achievements of your Talent Management PRactices. This can be proved by showing any critical positions that were filled by employees within the organisation (hence saving on recruitment cost) or employees are given job rotations, etc.
If you have planned any new interventions, you can put them as a "Way Forward" justifying the need for the same and the expected impact.
This should cover your presentation to the Board.
