The article 'Case management and return to work :oppurtunities and challenges' by Deoborah Edwards published on 30th september 2014 talks about how challenging the return to work after an injury or illness is.When people are not in contact with the labor market it can create adverse health outcome making the return more costly. And case management is one such method that is being used to regain their functionality. And this method is being used in US and Australia for several years.Traditional occupational health services have been a significant component in ensuring a healthy and safe workplace. Even after being careful accidents do occur and there were tendency for not letting the employees back at work without being fully recovered .But later many employers realised that a return to work prior to full recovery will be an aid to employer and employees. The article points out the important fact that"Work can be an effective adjunct to treatment, such as physiotherapy, as a means of improving and maintaining the wellbeing of individuals, their families and communities and thus getting back to work can be a key element of the rehabilitation programme."Employers are also recognising that employment policies have an impact on return to work .
Initially the firm should take a positive attitude and provide support to the recovering employee.Even trade unions can help in carrying out this. There should be clear diagnosis of the worker’s capacity for work and suitable work for the injured worker must be identified .This will help to keep the employee's social status in place. Also it relieves their conern about the job.
As a future case manager the article gives an idea about how job anlysis and rehabilitation is significant. It helps in developing quality case managing perfomance ,ethical standars and behaviour. It also provides knowledge about various related aspects.
