Suppose that you have amiable style, what characteristics of your style best define you?
The characteristics that describe an amiable Style person are - Friendly, Easy going, Agreeable, Co-operative, Dependable, people-oriented & slow paced. The primary orientation of an Amiable style person is relationship. They go to great extent to have harmonious relationships with others. They often sacrifice their own desires to be accommodative and get approval from others. They try and avoid conflict as far as possible and like to work with others in teams. They are usually very animated when they talk and focussed on opinions rather than data during discussion. They primarily seek personal security and approval from others. They usually have unhurried approach to completing tasks and hence slow paced
What challenges have you identified in interacting with other styles?
Drivers - Amiables often find drivers too impatient, direct and inconsiderate. The extreme assertiveness of drivers may come across as too controlling for a Amiable person. On the other hand, drivers find amiables too slow and undecided
Analytical - Amiables find Analytical person to be indifferent to people and relationships. They find analyticals obsessed with too much accuracy often at the cost of co-operation (which is highly prized by Amiable)
Expressive - Amiables find Expressive people too attention seeking and at times a little manipulative. When they get into conflict Expressive people might get aggressive, putting off and Amiable.
What particular challenges does your style present in leading others?
Amiable basically believes in consensus building and participative style leadership. Thus, coming to a decision and implementing it might slow paced than other styles. Amiable leaders are usually loved by their teams as they get along well with others. However, during a stress or pressure Amiable leader may get undecisive and submissive. Also, when a conflict situation arises such leaders try to avoid it rather than tackle it. The team members usually share an excellent repo with am Amiable leader. Amiable leader, in an effort to accommodate team members, may also fall short of goals and timelines.
What strategies can you use to best accomplish tasks, given your own style and the different styles you around you?
Amiable has an ability to "Connect" with others. They can use this skill to do many tasks effectively. Especially the ones requiring team work and co-operation. Amiables normally establish great relationships with co-workers, teams and peers and to work along with them to get the tasks completed. They go out of their way to help others and win over their trust. An amiable would work well with task that doesn’t require direct confrontation and rapid decision-making skills. They can use consensus building to accomplish their tasks well. They make slow and steady progress on tasks assigned. They also use coaching and counselling others to get them accomplish tasks.
What different tactics might you use to best 'connect' with others to help them buy-in to your position?
To connect with various styles Amiable can use the following tactics
Driver - An amiable person should be talking about results and achievements with the Drivers. Drivers normally don’t like small talk, and hence discussion should be on efficiency, time saving and actions. If a driver is able to see that Amiable is able to give him the required result with efficiency than they will have their buy-in
Anlytical - An Amiable person should be talking about data, evidences and systematic proven process to an Analytical person. Analytical person driven by evidences and accuracy, hence verified and authentic data can be used to get buy-in of an Analytical person
Expressive - Amiable person should strike an interesting conversation and lets an Expressive person feel recognized and appreciated. They are natural collaborators and have much in common with Amiables. Amiables need to talk about vision and enthusiastic road map.
