Please, answer this question
Identify the hormones of the anterior and posterior pituitary along with their target organs and their functions.
Please look in the table for anterior pituitary hormones which are secreted from the pars distalis lobe of adenophysis:
Hormones | Target | Function |
Growth hormone | All tissue. | Oversecretion causes gigantism and low secretion causes dwarfism. It maintains the proper growth of the body. |
Prolactin | Mammary gland | Growth of mammary glands and formation of milk. |
Thyroid stimulating hormone | Thyroid gland | Synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormone |
Adrenocorticotrophic hormone | Adrenal cortex | Synthesis and secretion of steroid hormone. |
Leutininsing hormone |
Testis And ovary |
Testis:Synthesis and secretion of androgen. Ovary: Ovulation |
Follicle stimulating hormone | Testis and ovary |
testis: regulates spermatogenesis Ovary: Formation of follicles in ovary |
Pars intermedia lobe of adenophysis of anteriory pituitary secretes one hormone i.e. melanocyte stimulating hormone.
Target organ: It targests organ is melanocyte cells present in skin.
Function: It regulates the pigmentation in skin
Please look in the table for posterior pituitary hormones:
Hormone | target | function |
Oxytocin |
smooth muscles of the body Mammary glands Uterus lining. |
It stimulates contraction of smooth muscles. Milk ejection from mammary glands Vigorous contraction of uterus |
Vasopressin | kidney | Resorption of water and electrolytes |
