The pituitary gland is an endocrine gland it weighs around 0.5 grams about a pea size in humans it is a protrusion of hypothalamus at the base of the brain . The anterior pituitary known as adenohypophysis is a gland that regulates physiological processes like stress, growth, reproduction, and lactation and the intermediate lobe synthesizes and secretes melanocyte-stimulating hormone. the hormones produced by this anterior pituitary glands are follicle stimulating hormone FSH,luteinizing hormone LH ,ACTH,Thyroid stimulating hormone this anterior pituitary hormone can produce and secreates it's own hormones.posterior pituitary known as neurohypophysis is a lobe of the gland that is functionally connected to the hypothalamus by the median through a small tube called the pituitary stalk or infundibular stalk. The hormones realised by this posterior pituiatory glands are Oxitocin and vasopressin.it cannot produce it's own hormones it can only stores and relese the hormones produced by the hypothalamus.
