Computer channels are connected to share resources like CDs & printers, exchange information or data from one computer system to the other. Simply the computer system is a facility to work more from system in place. Most common connecting network is internet. nternet is also considered as one of the network.

Describe the various types of networks.

Computer networks are of different types:

  • LAN - LOCAL AREA NETWORK - The network which is confined to relatively smaller geographical area is called LAN. Example - Computer systems connected in lab, schools, colleges, offices or in a building etc; In LAN computers are connected through cables or wireless system.
  • WAN - WIDE AREA NETWORK - The network which connects system in long or wide geographical areas. Example - Computer systems connected world wide. Satellites or transoceanic are used to connet the computer systems. So that person from one place in one country can communicate with the other in another country with in a fraction of seconds.
  • PAN - PERSONAL AREA NETWORK - The network which is the interconnection of technology within the environment of individual user mearly 10 meters. Example - If a person is travelling means with his laptop if he commects his mobile or any other device or gadgets to share data or information is called PAN.
  • GAN - GLOBAL AREA NETWORK - The network which is composed of different interconnected networks asuch as internet. There is geographical limitations.
  • HAN - HOME AREA NETWORK - The network which is usually with in the home of the user. The network connectivity within closed area or boundary is called home area network.
  • MAN - METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK - The network which connects multiple LAN. These networks connects larger than LAN but smaller than WAN. MAN connects the systems with in the city or town for connecting computer systems.
  • CAN - CAMPUS AREA NETWORKS - Campus area network is also called as Corporate area network. This is a multiple interconnected local area network.
