Contrast formal and informal communication.
1. Formal communication is based on formal organisational relationships wheres informal communication is not based on formal organisational relationships. It is free from formalities .
2. Formal communication is rigid as deviations are not allowed whereas informal communication is flexible.
3. Formal communication is slow as it has to follow the path laid down by management whereas in informal communication the communication is very fast as it in not supposed to follow a particular path.
4. Chances of distortion of information are very few in formal communication because it has to follow a formal channel whereas chances of distortion of messages are very high as it does not follow a formal channel.
5. In case of formal communication, status or position of the parties is very important whereas in case of informal communication, status or position of the parties has no relevance.
6. The channels of formal communication are pre-planned whereas the channel of informal communication are not pre planned.
