Communication at workplace:
Analyze different communication types (formal/informal/verbal, nonverbal) and channels (e-mail vs meeting) used at workplaces to maintain their operations. Explain which communication types and channels are more frequents and popular with different roles (manager/subordinate/peers/supervisors) and which are more effective? Program should be designed for new employees on how they should communicate with their supervisors/peer/sub-ordinates.
Formal communication- Formal communication is the official communication which takes place through prescribed channels such as meetings, notices etc. This type of communication is controlled communication where the messaging conforms to prescribed format and structure and is clear and concise. Formal communication can be up-down or down-up communication.
Informal Communication- Informal communication is unofficial communication which happens mostly between peers and colleagues in the company. It is more casual and does not conform to any rules or structures. For eg., Grapevine and gossips are informal communication.
Verbal communication- Verbal communication happens orally and the message is provided with words. This happens mostly on face to face or telephone or seminars etc. Speeches, presentations, addresses, interview etc are all type for verbal communications.
Non-Verbal Communication- Non-verbal communication is the communication which takes place without oral words. For eg: body language, gestures, handshakes, nods all are non-verbal communication. Confidence plays an important part in non-verbal communication and this is the type of communication that happens when two unknow person meet first.
Verbal and informal communication are the types which are frequent and popular with different roles. Formal communication is only used officially over documented communications whereas for day to day operations, informal verbal communications are used.
To ensure total compliance,formal communication is preferred as people have to follow it.
