Baumrind has listed 3 major parenting styles - Authoritative - This parenting style gives kids freedom as well as lay rules for the kids. The child develops in happy environment and turns out to be the responsible kid. The authoritarian parenting style is strict, which mainly involves strict adherence to the rules, punishment if the rules are not followed - though child may develop obidient one but fails to use his self thinking power as he/she is used to follow only what parents say. Permissive parenting style involves giving extra freedom to child, handling children's tantrums very liniently, providing them whatever they want.
As far as the above mentioned situation is concerned the authoritarian parenting style would be strict eg: making the child sleep on time, if the child doesn't sleeps then shouting on him, or punishim him, but not understanding that child may have adjustment problem due to new member. In permissive parenting, the parents would let child not sleep, do whatever he wants but would not scold him, explain the child is too soft manner if the child is not listening. In authoritative parenting style - the parents would explain child, that even if new child has still they love both the kids. And since it is baby only it needs more attention, they would ask him to behvae more responsibly
