7. An inductor is designed to filter high frequency noise from power supplied to a personal computer. Do you connect the inductor in series or in parallel with the computer? Explain.
Please explained detailed step by step, with diagram.
The high frequency noise is filtered by a low pass filter. Now we know that inductive reactance (resistance offered by inductor in ac circuit) is given by:
Where f is the frequency of the input
and L is the inductance
From above equation it is evident that for high frequency, inductor offers large reactance (resistance) and for low frequency it offers very less reactance. Therefore if inductor is connected to the computer (load ) in series then the inductor will absorb all the high freqency noise as it offers very large reactance to it, which means that only low frequency signals will get to the computer.
Here RL (load resistance) will be our computer and the L will be the inductor connected in series with the computer. Vs is the supplied voltage.
If the inductor is connected in parallel to the computer then the the inductor will act as a high pass filter and will allow only high frequency noise to pass through which we do not want.
