In a paragraph, relate the following terms: Metabolism, anabolism, catabolism, hydrolysis, condensation, endergonic, exergonic.
Relate means group those terms together that belong together. For example, anabolism means to build up larger molecules. What process do we use to build up larger molecules and does that process store energy or release energy?
In science or chemistry or in life the terms metabolism, anabolism, catabolism, hydrolysis, condensation, endergonic, exergonic are interrelated to each other. Metabolism refers to some chemical reactions that takes place in a living organism for their life to sustain. For these, they undergo anabolism where they build up the molecules which are endergonic. Also these reactions are condensation reactions. For example formation of peptides by using amino acids as source.
Similarly, catabolism refers to breakage of these larger molecules into smaller molecules. These reactions are exergonic and energy is released to the nearby environment. They generally undergo hydrolysis reactions leading to release of water molecules and oxygen. For example, hydrogen peroxide when undergo catabolism, they releases 2 molecules of water and one molecule of oxygen.
In most of the metabolic reactions, the chemical bonds present in reacting molecules are broken down and takes in the energy whereas for few new bonds are formed to make the products and these reactions releases out the energy. These reactions depends on ability to form and break bonds.
