Give a research-based statement of and rationale for the method you believe allows the best understanding of human experience
Qualitative research methods are unique in that they allow the researcher to extend the depths of their study by using an engaged, subjective perspective where the focus is on knowing the reality of their participants or community in a more holistic in-depth way. One of the most popular and successful qulaitiave methods is the ethnographic method which involves an objective, prolonged engagement with a group or community of participants who belong to a shared social or cultural background in order to develop an in-depth understanding about the groups’ way of living.
According to me, ethnography wis a highly potent and useful tool
in the analysis and first-hand observation of what, and how people
actually “do” (Angrosino, 2005) in their everyday lives rather than
merely gather verbal answers to a set of questions. The actual data
can be gathered either by participant or non-participant
observation in the field, and in-depth interviews with a range of
the participants who represent the different socio political
demographic categories- men, women, young and middle-aged adults,
individuals of special health concerns, different professionals,
etc.
Thus, to state in a more scientific way, in ethnography the voices
of the participants become a highly valid instrument in exploring
the research question and it becomes a highly nuanced way to learn
about cultural difference as well as formation of specific unique
traits within the community being studied.
