History of the national healthcare reform starting from the early days struggle for a national health plan to the present day.
Political struggle to pass PPACA.
Political impact of Medicare and Medicaid on the push for universal coverage.
Major issues from the legislative and executive (presidential) perspective. Who were the opponents and supporters?
The politics surrounding the national health insurance agenda and its impact on the PPACA.
The United States is a country without Universal health coverage. The reason is the U.S political system does not contain the proper social structure and the peoples are more individualistic. The Government plays the limited role. The second thing is the insurance industry that plays a major role and thus makes opponents between the government and the private insurers. The third one is the Government has the bad policy and the political system had a lot of struggles and obstacles to pass their plans.
Obama has signed into PPACA in March 2010. Then, the Reconciliation Act made some changes. Obama believes that this insurance expansion will benefit the people for low health insurance for the peoples. The Physicians are opposed to the care and there is a shortage of physicians. The PPACA further affected by policy changes. Against the legal challenges, the Supreme court rules of the healthcare law are under the clause.
Medicare payments have been reduced by ACA. So, the government has paid more for this. Further, ACA reduces reimbursement that makes the beneficiaries difficult to find physicians. According to Medicare and Medicaid services, they agree to encourage the health care of the individuals and the population. Since several are opposed to Medicaid expansions. After a long struggle, the Congress has moved towards the Universal Health Coverage.
Medicaid and Medicare have covered only selected group of the population. So the Universal Health coverage is needed for everyone to access the care. In Universal Health Coverage, the uninsured will pay in the form of taxes. The coverage also continues if the person loses their job. The Pocket expenses of an individual are also reduced. The cons of Universal Health Coverage is that the profit has a breakthrough. The healthcare market competition has been increased. The Individuals has to wait for a long time for the services.
The cost of healthcare in the U.S is challengeable. Some health sector is providing care at low cost. The healthcare reform becomes complex. In addition, several problems such as preventive services, elderly services, chronic diseases are problematic in the healthcare reform. The uninsurers are another challenges. The supreme court upheld the ACA in 2012. The battle is still going on whether the healthcare needs of Americans were met or not.
