1. Calculate the flow rate in gtt/min. (Simplify your answer completely. Express your answer to the nearest whole number.)
Administer 1,700 mL in 8 hr using a set calibrated at 20 gtt/mL.
2. Calculate the flow rate in gtt/min. (Simplify your answer completely. Express your answer to the nearest whole number.)
An IV of 1,000 mL was ordered to run in 6 hr. After 3 hr, only 350 mL have infused. The set calibration is 20 gtt/mL. Recalculate the rate for the remaining solution to complete on time.
3.Calculate the flow rate in gtt/min. (Simplify your answer completely. Express your answer to the nearest whole number.)
Administer 16 mL in 38 min using a microdrip set.
4. Calculate the flow rate in gtt/min. (Simplify your answer completely. Express your answer to the nearest whole number.)
Infuse 1 liter in 9 hr using a set calibration of 15 gtt/mL.
1) Calculate the flow rate(gtt/min).
Flow rate(gtt/min) = Volume(ml)/Time(min) * Drop factor(gtt/ml).
Here
Volume(ml) = 1700 ml.
Time(min) = 480 min (8 hr, 8 * 60 min)
Drop factor(gtt/ml) = 20 gtt/ml.
As per above formula
Flow rate(gtt/min) = 1700/480 * 20
= 3.54 * 20
= 70.8
= 71 gtt/min.
2) Calculation of flow rate(gtt/min) .
Flow rate(gtt/min) = Volume(ml) / Time(min) * Drop factor(gtt/ml).
Here
Remaining Volume(ml) = 1000 - 350
= 650 ml.
Remaining Time(min) = 6 hr - 3 hr
= 3 hr.
= 3 * 60 min
= 180 min.
Drop factor(gtt/ml) = 20 gtt/ml.
As per above formula
Flow rate(gtt/min) = 650/180 * 20
= 3.61 * 20
= 72.2
= 72 gtt/min.
3) Calculation of flow rate(gtt/min).
Flow rate(gtt/min) = Volume(ml)/Time(min) * Drop factor(gtt/ml).
Here
Volume(ml) = 16 ml.
Time(min) = 38 min.
Drop factor(gtt/ml) = 60 ( drop factor of a microdrip is 60 gtt/ml).
As per above formula
Flow rate(gtt/min) = 16/38 * 60
= 0.42 * 60
= 25.2
= 25 gtt/min.
4) Calculation of flow rate(gtt/min).
Flow rate(gtt/min) = Volume(ml) / Time(min) * Drop factor(gtt/ml).
Here
Volume(ml) = 1000 ml (1 liter).
Time(min) = 540 min ( 9 hr, 9 * 60 min).
Drop factor(gtt/ml) = 15 gtt/ml.
As per above formula
Flow rate(gtt/min) = 1000/540 * 15
= 1.85 * 15
= 27.7
= 28 gtt/min.
