1.) Calculate the flow rate in gtt/min. (Simplify your answer completely. Express your answer to the nearest whole number.)

The order is for 700 mL in 8 hr. The set is calibrated at 15 gtt/mL.

2.) Calculate the flow rate in gtt/min. (Simplify your answer completely.)

Administer 180 mL in 6 hr. A microdrip is used.

3.) Calculate the flow rate in gtt/min. (Simplify your answer completely. Express your answer to the nearest whole number.)

1,700 mL has been ordered to infuse in 16 hr. Set calibration is 20 gtt/mL.

4.) Calculate the flow rate in gtt/min. (Simplify your answer completely. Express your answer to the nearest whole number.)

The order is to infuse a liter in 10 hr. At the end of 8 hr, you notice that there are 400 mL left. What would the new flow rate need to be to finish on schedule if the set calibration is 10 gtt/mL?

5.) Calculate the flow rate in gtt/min. (Simplify your answer completely. Express your answer to the nearest whole number.)

An IV was started at 9 am with orders to infuse 500 mL in 8 hr. At noon, the IV infiltrated with 340 mL left in the bag. At 1 pm, the IV was restarted. The set calibration is 20 gtt/mL. Calculate the new flow rate to deliver the infusion on time.

Solutions

Expert Solution

1. Given the total volume of iv is 700 ml

Total time is 8hrs

Calibrate is 15 gtt/ml

Then number of drops per minute (flow rate) is

=total volume (ml) *drop factor (gtt/ml) /total time (min)

=700*15/8*60=2.18 drops per minute

Therefore the number of drops per minute of the given iv is 2 drops per minute(gtt/min) .

2.given total volume of iv is 180ml

Total time is 6hrs =6*60min =360min

Microdrip tubing delivers 60 gtts/mL and is used for small or very precise amounts of fluid, as with neonates or pediatric patients.

Flow rate =total volume (ml) *drop factor(gtt/ml) /total time (min)

=180*60/360

=30 drops per min (gtt/min)

Therefore the flow rate in drops per minute is 30 gtt /ml

3.given total volume of iv is 1700 ml

Total time is 16hrs =16*60 minutes =960 minutes

Drop factor is 20gtt/ml

Flow rate =1700*20/960=35.41 gtt/min

Therefore the flow rate is 35 gtt/min

4.given the volume after 8hrs is 400ml

Time left for that iv flow is =10-8=2hrs =2*60mins =120min

Given calibration is 10gtt/ml

Flow rate =400*10/120=33.33 gtt/min

There fore the flow rate is 33 gtt/min

5. Given total volume left at 1pm is 340 ml

Time left after 1pm is =8-4=4hrs =4*60min=240 min

New calibration is 20gtt/ml

Flow rate =340*20/24=28.33gtt/min

Therefore the new flow rate is 28 gtt/min
