Can you think of a situation in which you were reluctant to delegate authority to someone else? The person may have been an employed subordinate, a friend, a little brother or sister, or perhaps your spouse or child. Why were you unwilling to delegate? One the other hand, can you think of a situation in which authority was delegated to you, and you felt uneasy about your new responsibility or even turned it down?
The case i present has been from my past experience at the company i am currently working for.
I had been delegated the position of product lead when the previous leader had a falling out with the upper management. This caused the project to be halted till the time a suitable replacement could be found. When the company was unable to find another suitable candidate they decided to allow assistant managers like my colleague and i to take the reins over for necessarily running the project again from the ground up. While my colleague was happy with his new responsibility i was at an unease due to the sheer pressure and mindset requirement this project was going to put one me. I was right in the long run in the sense that the project team barely managed to release the game project on time while missing three deadlines and costing a big fortune for the company to keep the project running even with all the inefficiency. In the same situation, when the different department needs independency to work on their content without the oversight of the upper management or the other departments with the project lead acting as the sole responsible entity of the team, i acknowledged their request but due to my experience i denied the actual position designation in the sense that the responsibility of being able to work in isolation especially in a game design company was not only redundant but required a tremendous amount of coordination because of the unnecessary burden that would be put in order to confirm to the other departments without their actual involvement and i had been right to chose to do so in the end.
