a) Myrtle McGraw described locomotor development as proceeding in a fixed sequence of stages. Briefly describe the developmental changes she cataloged and discuss her explanation for that. b) Explain Esther Thelen & Linda Smith’s different explanation for locomotor development and give examples of the empirical evidence they gathered from their research that disavows McGraw’s interpretation
a) Myrtle McGraw breifly described about locomotor development which noting but infant growing development stages i.e. balancing, sitting, crawling and walking; develop most rapidly in the first 2years of life. She also brief about infant growth and development, she strongly believed that brain contributes development in behaviour. According to her research the neurobiological and quantum processes through which brain and behaviour undergo to developent transformation. b) Esther Thelen explains chaos theory to ther research of how babies learn to walk and interact with the peole around them. She believed that infant already had in built motor patterns of kicking etc. Linda Smiths explains that infant creates a cirriculum/modules for analytical learning. The gathered empirical evidence through using head cameras and eye trackers which they made an infant to wear on the head to track their movements in daily intervals to capture everyday visual activites from a infants point of view. This data review mainly focused on the data for statistical learning from an infant perspective.
